The Nuts and Bolts of Gray Mold and Fungicide Resistance
In collaboration with Farm Advisors Oleg Daugovish, Surendra Dara and Mark Bolda, the Cal Poly Strawberry Center organized three meetings titled “The Nuts and Bolts of Gray Mold and Fungicide Resistance.” The meetings, sponsored by the California Strawberry Commission, were held in Camarillo, Watsonville and Santa Maria in December, with more than 120 people in attendance. The meetings served as a culmination of student Scott Cosseboom's master's thesis, in which he characterized fungicide resistance in all three regions during the 2016 fruit production season.
Featured guest scientist Guido Schnabel, renowned Botrytis fungicide resistance researcher from Clemson University, joined Cosseboom in the presentations. Schnabel visited farms in all three regions and even got a close look at the ash deposited on fields in Ventura County from the Thomas Fire. Industry representatives from BASF, Syngenta, Marrone Bio Innovations and Taminco formed a panel to address specific questions about resistance management with specific fungicides.
